GP Racing and Syazwan take RMC Round 1 Victory

Syazwan Mohd Noor established himself and his GP Racing GP10 as the combination to beat in the junior class in Malaysia with a dominant display during the 1st round of the Rotax Max Asia and Malaysia championship at Speedway Plus Circuit in Kuala Lumpur on 12th March.
In DD2 Syazwan showed very good speed for most of the weekend but was plagued by gear selection problems. In the final, Syazwan took the lead initially but the problems resurfaced and he had to retire from the race.
In the junior class, Syazwan and his GP Racing GP10 dominated from the start of the weekend and set the fastest lap in all sessions and races. In the pre-final, he initially was led by main rival Gilbert Ang but passed after a few laps and gained enough lead to cruise to an impressive victory. The final was more straightforward, Syazwan taking an immediate lead and pulling away to a very comfortable win, with Gilbert again finishing 2nd. Syazwan said after the race: “My new GP10 was really good all weekend and I always felt in control. The DD2 was disappointing but if I win next time I’ll recover most of the points lost today. It’s great to be leading the junior championship but Gilbert and some of the others are tough competitors so I have to keep practicing and improving”.
Team Manager John King said “Syazwan will now be the clear favorite for the championship so there’s a lot of pressure on him and the team but I’m sure we can all cope with this. Syazwan’s driving was tremendous – in the final once he established a small lead, he consistent set laps fastest than any of his competitors could match and ended up with an unassailable lead. All the hard work he’s done during testing to get the right set-up for the kart really paid off. The new GP10 was simply amazing – Syazwan looked like he was on rails all weekend. “
The new DD2 driver from Singapore KEN SMITH in his first race in DD2 start dominating the DD2 class but have to settle to 4th place due to wrong flagging by marshals and due to throttle jam at the Finals.
He was doing fastest lap through out the heats and went in to finals with high hope to rapping up for GP for 1st and 2nd with shyswan for the DD2 but has to settle for 4th place. Overall we are very happy with our team performance.

Team News: Evolution Karting/GP Chassis - Florida Winter Tour Palm Beach Report

Evolution Karting driver Kurt Mathewson scored two wins in the Masters Shifter and scored two second place finishes in Stock Moto at Palm Beach International Raceway February 20-21 during the second round of the Florida Winter Tour Series. In addition, Innsfil Karting/GP Canada driver Zach Meyer scored two second place finishes in the KZ2 category.

While he swept the pre-final and finals both days, it was far from easy for Kurt Mathewson as Canadian Michel LeGrand pushed him hard both days. Unfortunately for Michel he was involved in a three kart accident at the start of the Sunday Final and couldn’t continue.

In the Stock Moto class it was a two-kart battle between Lucas Johnson and Cole Mathewson. Cole missed his flight to Florida and only arrived with enough time for two practices on Friday, which had him a little behind on adjusting his chassis to the track. Johnson was the better of the two both days, but Cole closed the gap each time they were on the track and pushed Lucas hard in the Sunday final but still had to settle for second.

With their results this weekend, Kurt Mathewson leads the Masters Shifter division with a wide margin. Cole Mathewson also leads the Stock Moto division with a 50 -margin over Vicki Brian Hagar and Carly Mandarino in third. Lucas Johnson is 115 pts back due to a DNF and a technical DQ in first two races last month in Orlando. In KZ2 Zach Meyer leads the category with a 175-point margin over Matthew Di Leo.

Evolution Karting is the Midwest based importer for GP Chassis and is looking to build their presence with strong support from the GP factory in the shifter categories as well as the non-shifter classes as well. Plans are to compete in the WKA Manufacturer’s Cup series beginning in April at the South Bend round as well as the SKUSA Pro Tour Series.

Florida Winter Tour Orlando Report

Canadian GP Racing Karts driver Zack Meyer kicked off his 2011 karting season with a dominating performance at the opening round of the 2011 Florida Winter Tour at the Orlando Kart Center. Meyer, was quick from the opening session and ended the double race weekend with two poles, two pre-final wins and two final wins.

"It's a great way to start the year," Meyer said after Sunday's final. "We were fast right off the trailer. I have to thank Joe Launi for all his hard work on our GP Racing Karts program this winter at the Innisfil Indy - it really paid off this weekend."

On Saturday, Meyer dominated the KZ2 class, and repeated the performance again on Sunday with none other than Williams F1 driver Rubens Barrichello taking the runner up spot. "It was great to have a F1 driver - Barrichello - in the race today. I just had to keep pushing hard for the win."

Meyer will have to put the opening weekend behind him quickly as he now prepares to mount his GP Racing Kart Rotax DD2 to compete in the opening round of the FWT for the Rotax classes.

"This weekend will be as tough as the first round of the KZ2 class," Meyer said. "There are lots of good drivers in good equipment in DD2, but I am confident in my GP Racing Kart and Joe Launi to help me get to the front this weekend."

Driver News: Austin Schimmel - Crockett Motorsports

After several discussions between Austin Schimmel Racing and Crockett Motorsports, we are proud to announce that Austin has joined Crockett Motorsports.

After finishing 3rd at SKUSA SuperNats and 2nd in the SKUSA Pro Tour, discussions for the 2011 season began. With such a strong run in Vegas, it became once again obvious that Austin was meant to be in this sport. The move to Crockett Motorsports seemed to be the best business decision to make.

Austin and Crockett Motorsports will be able to benefit from each other. Owner Derek Crockett, winner of the Pro Tour in the S2 class, will be able to closely work with Austin to better his on track and off track presence. Austin will be able to share his talents and abilities with the younger drivers on the team as well.

Crockett Motorsports was founded by Derek Crockett of Cahokia, Illinois at the end of the 2009 season. Derek has been karting for 13 years and has been working in a kart shop for 6. When asked about signing Austin Schimmel, Derek stated “We are very happy to have Austin on board with Crockett Motorsports, he will be a huge asset to our S5 program and I'm really looking forward to working with him in the 2011 season.”

Austin Schimmel started racing when he was 9 and never would have thought he’d be given an opportunity like this. When asked about moving teams Austin proudly stated “I am thrilled to be a part of such a close knit team like Crockett Motorsports. This is one of the best things that’s ever happened to me in karting!”

GP Chassis Claims 2 Series Championships.

At the final round of the Mi-Sedaap Pro Tour, both Mark Swetman and Daniel Bray wrapped up the Series Championships for Formula 125S and the premier KZ2 class, 2 of the 3 classes in the spectacular series in just the chassis’s first year on the New Zealand Market.

Going into the final round Bray had a whopping 17 point lead over fellow GP driver Daniel Dufty, who was running second in the points. Bray qualified on the front row with Dufty managing 5th, (which was respectable, as he could not make Friday practice with work commitments).
In the heat races Bray was in a hefty battle for the lead, finishing 2nd, 2nd and 1st, while working on the chassis set up. Dufty would be in another battle through the heat races finishing 4th and 3rd but unfortunately didn’t finish the 3rd heat race.
In the Pre Final, Bray settled for second place, as he was struggling with a leaking bead lock in the left rear tyre. Dufty once again had a fight to the end on his hands, only to loose 3rd place with 4 laps to go.
The Final lived up to all expectations as a great race. Bray got the lead with his GP chassis, bolting from the standing start (as he had all weekend long). Bray held the lead till lap 4, when he got shuffled back to 3rd and lost ground to the leaders. He pulled the leaders in, in just one lap and made the pass for second. Bray then stalked the leader for the next 5 laps until on lap 10 he made his move, and never looked back, winning the all important final and finishing the series in winning fashion.
Dufty would not have as much fun in the final, not finishing with motor problems. This dropping him to 3rd in the championship by 1 point.

Mark Swetman’s day was business as usual for the GP driver. Mark qualified on pole and won all the heat races, Pre Final and Final. Mark finished the year with the most points possible, getting all the bonus points for qualifying and winning every round.

The newest GP driver Kerry James would have another strong round, driving in the Formula 125S class. In the heat races he would finish as high as 3rd. Kerry finished the final 5th, one place higher than the previous round. Kerry finished the series 4th overall.

GP Driver News: Austin Schimmel - SKUSA Pro Tour SummerNationals - Report

Coming off several solid regional race weekend performances, Austin Schimmel (Colorado Springs, CO) arrived in Shawano, WI looking to continue his stellar 2010 season. The outstanding USA International Raceway was host to rounds 3 and 4 of the 2010 Superkarts! USA Pro Tour. The Pro Tour SummerNationals featured an exciting three day format. One full practice day of six on-track sessions, followed by two complete and separate race days.

Schimmel drove his S5 Rocky Mountain Kartworks GP fantastically through the Friday practice sessions, getting familiar with the track, and setting a pace that no competitors could match. He topped the time sheets in both of the Friday afternoon timed sessions. Saturday qualifying saw Schimmel on pole by nearly 1 second, posting a lap time of 1:12.871. He settled into a rhythm for heats 1 and 2, winning by over 3 seconds in both 6 lap races. In the 12 lap main event, Schimmel built a comfortable lead, but developed a chain/sprocket problem causing him to relinquish the lead and come to a halt on the final lap. A disappointing result for certain, but Schimmel’s pace was undeniably strong.

Saturday night brought foul weather and rain showers that continued at the circuit through warmup and qualifying on Sunday morning. Schimmel qualified 7th on the soaked track after spinning off early in the session. In the first of two heat races, Austin rocketed to the front, holding P2 after 2 laps and taking the lead after 5, winning by about a second and claiming the fastest lap by over half a second. Then, Austin lead the entire 2nd heat and won by nearly 5 seconds, displaying a strong pace for the main event to follow. In the 12-lap final race, it appeared that his competitors had gained a bit of ground, but it wasn’t enough to deny Schimmel. He won by 5 seconds, and set the fast lap of the race, gaining him additional championship points.

Schimmel and the Rocky Mountain Kartworks team are surely pleased with his first career Pro Tour win. Austin’s strong weekend in Wisconsin earned him some nice hardware on the podium, as well as the lead in the season’s points standings. Schimmel will look to score well and protect that championship lead at the SKUSA SuperNationals this fall in Las Vegas, NV.

GP Driver News: Austin Schimmel – SKUSA Mountain Region Round 1 Report

Pikes Peak International Raceway in Fountain, Colorado was host to the 1st round of the 2010 Superkarts! USA Mountain Region on Saturday, May 8th. Austin Schimmel arrived at this hometown facility looking to start his SKUSA regional program on the top step. The exciting two day regional format featured one full practice day on the newly designed temporary circuit, followed by a complete race day.

Schimmel drove his S5 equipped Rocky Mountain Kartworks GP well through the Friday practice sessions, getting familiar with the track, as well as the cool and windy conditions. He closed the practice rounds at the top of the time sheets, two tenths clear of his competitors. Saturday morning qualifying saw a close battle for pole, with the top three karts covered by three tenths. Austin set a time of 46.84 seconds, securing pole position over his teammate Christian Schureman by five hundredths.

The first of two 10-lap heat races got underway with Schimmel slotting into P2 and then hounding Schureman for the entire session. Austin set the fastest lap and came to the checkers less than two tenths behind the leader. The 2nd heat race was very exciting, with Schimmel holding the point early, swapping P1 with Schureman several times before settling into P2 and bringing it home safely.

After a few more changes to the kart, Schimmel was excited to continue the close battle for the S5 class win in the 20-lap final. His race got underway with a disappointing start, slotting into P3. Schimmel battled to regain P2 over the first 5 laps of the event so he could begin chasing down the leader. Once Austin found the clear air, he set the fastest lap of the race on lap 6 and started chipping away at the leader’s 3 second advantage. Schimmel was able to consistently close the gap over the remaining laps, but ran out of time, crossing the line in P2, just over a second behind the leader.

Another fine effort from Austin and a great way to open his regional points account. Currently second in Mountain Region S5 points, Schimmel will look to score well again at Round 2 of the Mountain Region’s season at Grand Junction Motor Speedway on June 19-20.

Promising Début For JVB In His GP Chassis.

At the latest round of the 2010 Top Half series held in the BOP on the weekend of the 15th- 16th May, John Van Bommel had a great debut finishing 2nd in what you would call contrasting days.

Saturday started out very strong for the 17 year old Van Bommel in very changing conditions even thunderstorms throughout the day. Only having had the chassis for 3 days and not knowing where to start with a wet set up, the Aussis Butcher race team just slapped on the wets and went for a run. Van Bommel was instantly fast.
By the end of the day and minimal changes to the GP chassis, Van Bommel was the class act of the field, by 4 tenths.

Sunday then came. What a different day this was, not a cloud in the sky. This meant back to the drawing board for the Aussis Butcher/GP team. With no testing in the dry the day before, the team quickly decided to make this day a test day. John ended up 2nd overall for the weekend with finishes of: 2nd, 2nd, 3rd, 7th (from 4 random starting grids throughout the heat races), then 2nd again in the final with a very competitive field of Rotax Max Lights.

John and the Aussis Butcher team are looking forward to working with N-Zed Motorsport and the GP Team in working on a winning package.

GP DRIVERS WIN IN SINGAPORE

GPRACING ASIA enter two GP drivers for the Singapore National karting championship Round 2. Both the GP karts win podium places. GP Rookie Junior Driver Hong Yang came 3rd And GP Rotax Masters Category Driver Rasheed taking the 2nd place.

Talk of the race was the GP Rookie Driver Hong Yang and more Experience Tony Kart Junior driver fighting for the third place. It was a clean drive by both of the Junior and Senior drivers. Specially Rasheed was driving with engine problems together with Singapore top drivers. Well done GP.

MIRAGE WINS AGAIN IN USA!

The 2010 season continues to be a successful journey for Team Aluminos. The hard work put in by the staff and drivers have equated to strong results on-track. On May 1, Team Aluminos shined once again at the Jim Russell International Karting Center for the third round of the Superkarts! USA ProKart Challenge North program. Team driver coach Tom Dyer made his 2010 S1 debut with a victory, while S4 pilot Jeff Smith extended his win streak to three. TaG Senior pilot Larry Fraser scored his second win of the season to give Aluminos three wins on the event.

Dyer entered the event piloting the new Mirage KZ chassis (miragekart.com), helping to develop a baseline setup for Aluminos operation. The two time SKUSA SuperNationals Stock Moto champion opened up the event with a third place performance in the morning qualifying session, just two-tenths off the pole-sitter. Wasting no time and signaling his intentions, Dyer got a great launch from inside of row two taking the lead at the start and going unchallenged for the win in heat one. Dyer again grabbed the holeshot to begin heat two. On this 8-lap run, he would find pressure and by lap six, Dyer had relinquished the lead and finishing second. Starting the main event from the off-pole position, Dyer launched off the line quickly to take the lead. With a series of quick opening laps, Dyer established a sizable lead. Hitting his marks and putting down consistent lap times over the 20-lap event, Dyer took the victory by over 4-seconds.

“The Mirage KZ chassis worked really well at the event,” stated Dyer following the weekend. “It’s now two for two in the win department with this one and Jeff Smith’s win in the S4 class in the second round of the series. I think this chassis likes racing here in North America.”

GP Driver News: Austin Schimmel - SKUSA Pro Tour SpringNationals - Report

Coming off a solid 8th place performance at the Superkarts! USA SuperNationals XIII in November of 2009, Austin Schimmel (Colorado Springs, CO) arrived in Sonoma, CA looking to start the 2010 season on a high note. The beautiful Jim Russell Karting Center was host to the opening rounds of the 2010 SKUSA Pro Tour SpringNationals. The Pro Tour features an exciting three day format. One full practice day of six on-track sessions, followed by two complete and separate race days.

Schimmel drove his S5 (restricted stock moto) GP well through the Friday practice sessions, getting familiar with the track, and the changing conditions. He ended the day in P3, just four tenths off the top time. Saturday qualifying saw an electrifying battle for pole, with the top four karts covered by less than two tenths. Austin’s best lap was only a tenth off pole and good for third. The top group settled into a rhythm for heats 1 and 2, with Schimmel coming home third in both sessions. In the 15 lap main event, Schimmel took over the second position for the first half of the race, but was overtaken, and came to the checkered flag in P3 once again.

Sunday was a new day and hopes were high in the Rocky Mountain Kartworks GP tent. Schimmel was again just a few tenths off the leader’s pace and qualified third with a 50.92 second lap. Heat 1 saw a steady effort to hold P3, but Heat 2 saw him slip one spot on the eighth and final lap due to developing brake issues. With those issues resolved, the main event turned into what is sure to be one of the most exciting S5 races of the year. The top 4 karts were never more than a second or two apart, swapping positions several times per lap for 15 laps. Schimmel closed in on the battle for the lead, holding P2 and was at the point just briefly. The shuffle on the final lap put him back in P3, with the podium finishers crossing the line less than three tenths apart. Closing the day with a fine effort, Austin could also claim the fast lap of 51.07 seconds.

Finishing the weekend out with two podiums was a great result for Schimmel and the Rocky Mountain Kartworks team. Currently second in season points, Schimmel will look to score well again at the SummerNationals in Shawano, WI.

Next up for Schimmel’s 2010 program is the first round of the new SKUSA Mountain Region’s season in Fountain, CO. The experience gained on yet another temporary circuit will surely benefit the young driver at SuperNationals XIV in November.

MIRAGE FIRST WIN IN USA!

Team Aluminos continues to be a consistent factor in the early months of the 2010 season. In its third season, Team Aluminos has recorded strong results and strives to guide their drivers to the top of the charts. For a fourth straight event, Aluminos recorded at least one victory with S4 driver Jeff Smith scoring a win at this past weekend’s ProKart Challenge North Round 2 event at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, California.
Smith’s weekend wasn’t a complete sweep like his round one victory. Aboard a new Mirage kart for the first time, prepped by the Aluminos staff, Smith was narrowly edged out for the top spot in the morning qualifying session. Falling back to third on the opening lap of the first heat, Smith knifed his way to the point by lap three. Hounded through the remaining laps, Smith was able to post the fast lap of the heat to make some space before taking the checkered flag. With a better start from the pole in heat two, Smith was once again at the point, leading all eight laps while recording another fast lap for the win. With momentum on his side, Smith drove a smart and error free 20-lap feature race to score his second straight victory and the first in North America for the Mirage brand, running similar lap times to his first two heat races.

GP Kart importer expands brand across the country for assault at victories and championships

LOVELAND, CO (February 25, 2010) – The 2010 season is gearing up to be a successful year for Rocky Mountain Kartworks (RMKW) and the GP Kart chassis. A full slate of events across the country for the Italian manufactured chassis importer, along with a solid group of dealers, will be putting the GP Kart on a number of tracks in search of victories and championships. With the winter months nearly complete, RMKW is preparing for a busy year of racing.

“The 2010 season is looking to be a solid year for Rocky Mountain Kartworks and GP Karts,” stated owner AJ Noud. “Since becoming the sole United States importer for the brand, we have carefully outlined our business model and now are looking to expand further. The collaboration of new dealers we have signed on and the longtime supporters of the GP brand will only help build the presence throughout the country. We excited to hit the track for our official 2010 debut in the next few weeks.”

Rocky Mountain Kartworks squad, based in Colorado, will campaign the new Superkarts! USA Pro Tour along with the regional program - SKUSA Mountain Region Challenge. The new SKUSA Pro Tour will be a collaboration of the RMKW operation and its many GP Kart dealers, providing a number of Arrive and Drive opportunities for all divisions offered. The Tour will take the GP Kart pilots to the Jim Russell International Karting Center at Infineon Raceway in Northern California for April along with the USA International Raceway in Shawano, Wisconsin in the month of July. Wrapping up the SKUSA Pro Tour will be the 14th annual SuperNationals in Las Vegas, where plenty of GP Karts will be battle for victories.

Rocky Mountain Kartworks will then be the backbone of the GP Kart support for the new SKUSA Mountain Region Challenge based in Colorado for four double-header weekends. Providing a number of Arrive and Driver opportunities, the RMKW tent is sure to be full and loaded with some of the best talent in the Mountain region. In addition, Rocky Mountain Kartworks will return to the Rock Island Grand Prix over the Labor Day weekend along the Mississippi River in the Quad Cities area. In preparation for the SKUSA Pro Tour events, RMKW will be attending the March event of the ProKart Challenge North in Sonoma and the Central States Challenge in Wisconsin for July.

Under the GP Kart banner for 2010 are a number of dealers set to tackle the kart tracks across the country. Crockett Motorsports and Corrida Karting, newly developed shops in the St. Louis and Wisconsin areas, will provide trackside service for those competing in the SKUSA Central States Challenge. GP Karts Win Their First NEW ZEALAND Championship!

As the chequered flag waved at the end of the 31 lap final for the premier class, KZ2 at the CIK Trophy of New Zealand there was a clear winner, Daniel Bray.

Piloting his N-Zed Motorsport, GP chassis powered by an R&R Powersports Maxter, he dominated the weekend’s proceedings.

The weekend kicked off on Saturday morning with 2 x 10 minute Qualifying sessions, which were in dry conditions. Bray only needed the first qualifier to seal pole position with a time of 34.760. This time was 0.058 faster than local hero Karl Wilson who qualified P2.

Just after qualifying, the heavens opened, sending the teams scrambling for their wet weather tyres. Bray didn’t quite know what to expect from his GP chassis as he had never driven it in the rain before. In his 3 years of racing this brand of chassis in the USA it had, never rained.

Race 1. Bray got a lightning start from the standing start, only to come around to complete the first lap and to find it had been red flagged, because of a crash at the start. So they lined up to do it all again. Already with a feel for his clutch, Bray leapt off the line again, pulling out to a 7 ½ second lead by the end of the race, while setting the fastest lap of the race.

“I am amazed at how well this GP chassis handled in those wet conditions. We just slapped the wets on, with the kart still in a dry set up. The kart was near faultless” “We will make a rear width change for the next one, to help my drive off the turns.”

Race 2. Another lightning start for the GP driver, bolting out to a 5 second lead in the opening couple of laps! From there he would slow to the pace of the rest of the field to save tyres. Bray was a staggering 6/10^ths faster than the second fastest time in this heat race.

“The changes we made from race one helped and now has given us a great base setting for the wet.” “I am pleased with today, but tomorrow is a completely different day and that is the only day that counts.”

When Sunday rolled around it was a completely different day. Sunny and no sign of rain.

Race 3. Another great start for Bray on the GP chassis, jumping out to an early lead. In the last 2 laps Bray got caught by the 2^nd and 3^rd placed karts. Under heavy attack from Ryan Grant, Bray managed to somehow hold them off and continue his unbeaten record.

“The kart was handling great throughout the hole race.” “I was struggling off the corners with jetting and pulled the carbie apart to find the needle clip had come out. The needle had bent and jammed in but out of place.” “I was lucky to finish, luck was on my side.”

Pre-Final. With this race being much longer (23 laps) it was going to be a test on the set up of the kart. Bray, again left everyone behind at the start. Within a couple of laps he was out to a comfortable gap and with-stained this for the whole 23 laps.

“The kart was great over the whole race. My lap times didn’t change, within a tenth or two the whole race.” “It makes my job a lot easier, when the kart is that consistent.”

Final. With this the longest race of the year, it was sure to be a test on man and machine. The lights went out for the 31 lap final and it had to be the one start of the day that the GP driver didn’t nail. Luckily Bray caught the clutch and still made it to the first corner in the lead. At the end of the second lap the air pressure in the tyres had risen to where they needed to be. Bray took off and never looked back. He pulled out to the same comfortable gap as in the previous races, and then just held it there. Showing how consistent the kart was, he set his fastest lap time on lap 24 while lapping other competitors in the race. In the last couple of laps Bray got held up in heavy lap traffic reducing the overall winning margin to 4.8 seconds.

This meant Bray lead every lap of every race while doing the clean sweep and giving the GP chassis and the new importers N-Zed Motorsport their first New Zealand title to add to the North Island title they won at Labour Weekend in Manawatu.

GP WINS IN NEW ZEALAND!

Bray, 22, claimed the Senior trophy with a clean-sweep in the KZ2 class, while defending title holder Arie Hutton fought back to keep the Junior trophy for another year in the top Junior category, KF3.

Hosted by Wellington club KartSport Wellington at its CRC Raceway at Kaitoke in the foothills north-east of Upper Hutt, the three-day event attracted a class field of over 80 drivers including two from Australia.

Heading into the meeting multi-time New Zealand champion Ryan Grant was the favourite to successfully defend his 2009 CIK Trophy of New Zealand title in the KZ2 class. However reigning North Island class champion Bray claimed pole position in qualifying on Saturday morning then went on to win all three heat races and both the Pre-Final (the race which determines the grid for the winner-takes-all-Final) and the Final, the latter from Grant and top local driver Karl Wilson.

The 22-year-old spent the past year competing in the United States and he believes racing against some of the best kart racers there has helped him raise his game.

"I knew both Ryan and Karl were going to be hard to beat but having said that I was confident this year I had a package that was as good, if not better, than their's"

Bray won the first two heats from young Bay of Plenty driver Daniel Dufty with Australian driver Matthew Hayes third in the first and Grant third in the second. He then won the third from Grant and fellow Aucklander Richard Moore before winning the Pre-Final from Grant and Dufty and the Final from Grant and Wilson.

LATEST DECISIONS OF THE WORLD MOTOR SPORT COUNCIL AND/OR GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE FIA CONCERNING KARTING

On occasion of the meetings of 21 and 23 October 2009 in Paris, the World Motor Sport Council of the FIA and/or the General Assembly of the FIA took in particular the following decisions for Karting: International Karting Commission-FIA

On proposal of the World Motor Sport Council the General Assembly of the FIA has designated the President and the Members of the CIK for the year to come.
Mr Nicolas Deschaux (F) has been appointed President of the CIK and the following countries will be represented within the Commission: Argentina, Bahrein, Belgium, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Japan,Mexico, Monaco, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States of America.

Sporting Regulations

Further to the creation of a new CIK-FIA World Karting Championship for 15 to 18 years old Drivers and of a CIK-FIA Karting Academy for 13 to 15 years old Drivers, it has been decided that the fi rst season will comprise three events, to be held in Europe on the following dates: 25 July, 29 August and 3 October 2010.
Each event will be organised over three days. Friday will be dedicated to the sporting and technical checks, the education programme and the fi rst non-qualifying practice. Saturday will comprise further non-qualifying practice, qualifying practice and the fi rst qualifying heats.
And the warm-ups, the last qualifying heats and the fi nal phase will take place on Sunday.
For the World Championship for Drivers under 18, a new fi nal phase format will be implemented,with two prefi nals (one with a reversed grid) the combined results of which will determine the starting grid of the fi nal.
A CIK-FIA World Champion of Makes title will be awarded to the chassis make used by the Driver winner of the World Championship.
The single-engine which will be used in this World Championship when it is desigated further to a tender procedure for a 3-year period will be in KF4 technical confi guration, with the following specifi cations: KF2 ignition box (max rev: 15,000 rpm), removal of the power-valve, adoption of an additional exhaust silencer and feeding with «ecological» fuel of the E10 type.
This engine can also be adopted by ASNs wishing to use it within the framework of a national category with a promotional character.
All the homologated chassis makes can enter the World Championship on condition that they supply strictly identical chassis (homologated models, without front brakes and with limited optional accessories; sets of chassis and accessories marked by the CIK-FIA before the opening of the Championship). The choice of chassis among the entered makes will be left up to
Drivers, and the chassis will be allocated by drawing lots.
For the Academy, a single-kart (chassis-engine) will be designated further to a tender procedire for a 3-year period, in KF3 technical confi guration, with the following technical specifi cations: feeding by means of a fl oat-chamber carburettor and with «ecological» fuel of the E10 type. The number of karts will be limited to 34 in 2010, then to 51 in 2011 and 2012.
The eligibility criteria for the CIK-FIA World Cups have been considerably extended, allowing in particular the entry of the top 10 classifi ed Drivers (instead of 5) of national Championships in the World Cups for KF2 and KF3 and the entry in the World Cup for KZ1 of Drivers classifi ed in the fi rst 33% of the Viking Trophy participants.

Technical Regulations

For safety reasons, it has been decided that Superkart chassis shall adopt «two-level» front,side and rear bumpers (with lower and upper bars), in place of the current single bars.
The validity of 125cc gearbox engines (KZ, former ICC) homologated on 1.1.2004 is extended to 31.12.2012.

Tenders

Total has won the tender to be the single supplier of fuel for the 2010 and 2011 CIK-FIA European Superkart Championships.
Dell’Orto has won the tender to be the single supplier of carburettors for the 2010, 2011 and 2012 CIK-FIA KZ1 and KZ2 Championships, Cups and Trophies.

Il sig. Regolamento Sportivo

Oltre alla creazione di un nuovo Campionato Mondiale CIK-FIA per il piloti di età compresa tra i 15 e i 18 anni e un’accademia CIK-FIA per il karting per i piloti dai 13 ai 15 anni, si è deciso che la prima stagione si articolerà su tre eventi, che si terranno in Europa nelle seguenti date: 25 luglio, 29 agosto e il 3 ottobre 2010.

Ogni evento si svolgerà nell’arco di tre giornate. Il venerdì sarà dedicato alle verifiche tecniche e sportive, il programma educativo e le prove libere. Il sabato comprenderà ulteriori prove libere, prove di qualificazione e le prime manche di qualifica. E il warm up, le rimanenti manche di qualifica e la fase finale si terranno la domenica.
Per il Campionato Mondiale riservato agli under 18, sarà applicato un nuovo format per la fase finale, con due prefinali (una a griglia invertita), i cui risultati combinati determineranno la griglia di partenza della finale.
Un titolo di Campione del Mondo CIK-FIA Marche sarà assegnato al marchio di telaio utilizzato dal pilota vincitore del Campionato Mondiale Il motore unico da utilizzare in questo campionato, sarà designato in base ad una gara d’appalto per un periodo di 3 anni e avrà la configurazione KF4 con le seguenti specifiche : accensione KF2 (max rev 15,000 rpm), rimozione della valvola di scarico, adozione di un silenziatore di scarico addizionale e alimentazione con carburante “ecologico”di tipo E10.
Questo motore potrà essere adottato anche dalle ASN che vorranno utilizzarlo nell’ambito di una
categoria nazionale a carattere promozionale. Tutti i marchi di telai omologati possono prendere parte al Campionato del Mondo a condizione che forniscano telai rigorosamente identici (modelli omologati, senza freni anteriori e con un numero limitato di accessori opzionali; set di telai e accessori marchiati dalla CIK-FIA prima
dell’inizio del Campionato). La scelta dei telai tra i costruttori iscritti sarà lasciata ai piloti, e i telai saranno assegnati a sorteggio.
Per l’Accademia, il singolo kart (telaio-motore), sarà designato a seguito di una gara d’appalto per un arco di tempo di tre anni, in una configurazione tecnica KF3, con le seguenti specifiche tecniche: alimentazione tramite carburatore a vaschetta e con carburante “ecologico” di tipo E10. Il numero di kart sarà limitato a 34 nel 2010, allargato poi a 51 nel 2011 e nel 2012. I criteri di idoneità per le Coppe del Mondo CIK-FIA sono stati notevolmente allargati, nello specifico permettendo l’accesso ai primi 10 piloti (non più 5) classificati nei Campionati Nazionali alle Coppe del Mondo KF3 e KF2 e l’accesso alla Coppa del Mondo KZ1 ai piloti classificatisi nei primi 33% tra quelli partecipanti al Viking Trophy Regolamento tecnico

Per ragioni di scurezza, si è deciso l’adozione per i telai Superkart di paraurti anteriori, posteriori e laterali su “2 livelli” (con barre superiori e inferiori), al posto delle correnti barre singole.
La validità dei motori 125 con il cambio (KZ, prima ICC) omologati il 1.1.2004 è estesa al 31.12.2012.

Appalti

La Total si è aggiudicato l’appalto come unico fornitore per il 2010 e il 2011 per i Campionati CIKFIA Superkart.
Dell’Orto ha vinto l’appalto come fornitore unico di carburatori per le stagioni 2010, 2011 e 2012 per i campionati, coppe e trofei CIK-FIA KZ1 e KZ2.

We are very satisfied about our new driver from Russia, the young kid Vasiliy Romanov.
He had to learn quickly how to race against an exagerate number of drivers because here at the South Garda Karting Center there are 89 drivers in the KF3 class!
His GP10 chassis is at the final setup and almost ready for tomorrow qualify session.

Siamo molto soddisfatti del nostro nuovo pilota russo, il giovane pilota Vasiliy Romanov.
Ha dovuto imparare in fretta come si corre in mezzo ad un numero esagerato di partecipanti perchè qui al South Garda Karting Center ci sono ben 89 piloti nella KF3!
Il suo GP10 è vicino alla messa a punto finale, pronto per le quealifiche ufficiali di domani.

Corrida Karting Joins GP Kart Expansion in Midwest

As it continues to expand its presence across the United States, the GP Kart line added yet another new kart shop to its program with the addition of Corrida Karting. The new shop, which is opening in Neenah, WI, will be owned and operated by Joe and Wende Sturm. In conjunction with GP Kart importer Rocky Mountain Kartworks and St. Louis area dealer Crockett Motorsports, this new combination is setting its sites on making a huge impact on the karting scene in the Midwest.

Corrida Karting will be a full-service kart shop selling and servicing the complete line of GP karts and parts, based in a 3,600 square ft. shop with office and showroom. Joe Sturm has been actively involved in karting, sprint racing in the S1 and G1 division, as well as road racing in the Midwest. Wende is best known for her photography work at the track. Joe’s racing career started when he was young, beginning with motocross competition. From there, he moved to off-road buggies and then sprint cars. After putting in solid years on the dirt, Sturm was introduced to karting. Over the past six years racing karts, Sturm has put in a solid resume both as a G1 driver and in the S1 division against competitors half his age. Unfortunately, Joe had off-track injuries, including surgery on his shoulder in 2008 and back problems in 2009, which limited his ability to race during the last couple of years. Despite the pain, Sturm has come back twice now from tough injuries to gut out some solid runs. In that time, Sturm won the SKUSA Central States Challenge G1 title in 2008 and won a trip to compete at the Granja Viana 500 event in Brazil that same year. Now looking to continue in the sport in a different avenue, Corrida Karting was created to continue the Sturm’s love for the sport and provide the full intensity assisting customers to the checkered flag as Joe did behind the wheel.

“What we really want to do is work on superior trackside service and support including arrive-and-drive services for the average karter on up to professionals for national events,” commented Sturm. “We will carry a complete line of karts and parts ranging from Kid Karts up to SuperPro and will be offering arrive-and-drive for the same. As Superkarts! USA reorganizes its class offerings with a complete selection of shifter classes, the GP chassis is a shoe-in with unmatched performance around the country.”

Over the past five years, the Crocketts and Sturms have become a close-knit karting family. “Mike (Crockett), Derek (Crockett) and I have been talking about just such a deal for a while,” Sturm added. “We just didn’t get the right feeling until now. Rocky Mountain Kartworks owner AJ Noud and the GP line of karts is the right fit and we are looking forward to working closely with AJ and the GP factory. I really want to thank the Crocketts for their support and AJ Noud for the opportunity to make this dream come true.”

“Joe is always helping others,” offers Wende, Joe’s wife and business partner. “Whether it’s lending a tool, part or even a hand, he is always there for his teammates and competitors. He even gives jetting info, speed secrets and on a couple of occasions, has given his entire back-up motor to someone to use.”

The debut for Corrida Karting is set for the SKUSA SuperNationals XIII on November 18-22 in Las Vegas with Crockett Motorsports and Rocky Mountain Kartworks. Sturm will pilot a GP Kart machine in the G1 category, while Bermuda driver Scott Barnes will be aboard a Corrida Karting GP Stock Honda package for the S3 division. Looking ahead to 2010, Sturm will work closely with Crockett Motorsports as they look to tackle the SKUSA Pro Tour, SKUSA Central States Challenge, Rock Island Grand Prix and other regional and local events. VASILIY ROMANOV is the name of the very young russian driver that will race under the colours of the official GP team this week at the last event of the WSK championship in Lonato, Brescia.

After a few recent tests in Castelletto di Branduzzo track and an impressive performance at the last Bridgestone Cup event in Lonato, this kid already proved to be one of the best in his class and "one" to beat!

Great debut for GP KARTS in New Zealand!

It was a great first outing for GP Karts in New Zealand on September 26 at the final round of the Steward Motors 125 shifter series in Hawke’s Bay.

With the return of GP-driving Aluminos team racer Daniel Bray from his six months stint in the USA the Hawke’s Bay meeting was the ideal launching pad for the GP Racing marque here in New Zealand.

Because he had not competed at any previous rounds Bray had to start each KZ2 race from the rear of the field. Though a little disappointing that didn’t stop him making the presence of the new GP chassis - complete with its radical Ceramic Aluminum brakes – felt.

In Qualifying Bray only managed fifth quickest as he got held up in traffic and slightly missing the set up with a new set of sticky tyres.

In the first race however he got an amazing start, making up seven positions (from 14^th to seventh place) in the first lap alone. Some awesome outbraking manoeuvres at the end of the main straight saw him make up four more before race end, crossing the line in third place.

In the second race Bray didn’t get such a great start but still managed to hustle his way to seventh place on the opening lap before completing a carbon copy of the first race on his way to third place – the icing on the cake this time the fastest lap of the race.

The third heat was much the same as the previous two, Bray and the GP chassis working as a team to be seventh by the end of the opening lap and third by the time the chequered flag came out.

Understandably this created a lot of interest around the track with onlookers wondering what the hard-driving Aucklander and his new impressive GP chassis could do in a longer race.

Unfortunately they had to wait as the clutch on Bray’s Maxter engine started slipping causing a DNF in the Pre-Final.

Which just left the final, the’ Main Event’ of the weekend.

Again starting from the rear of the field Bray launched through the pack off the start getting to seventh once again by the end of the opening lap. By lap five he had moved into fourth, setting the fastest lap of the race on the way.

He then closed the gap slightly over the karts in front of him for the next three laps but then his pace slowed to match theirs.

However with four laps to go the GP Kart came into its own. With the karts in front of him going off because of the race distance Bray started to reel the front three in, catching third placed Richard Moore on the last lap.

With just the one lap to go there was not the time to make it to third place but overall Bray was very happy, both with his return to racing ‘at home’ and the New Zealand debut of the GP kart chassis.

“It was a great day, all and all for the debut of the GP Kart it’s just unfortunate that I couldn’t get on the podium, I had the kart set up for a longer race as that is what I have been use to in the States.” “It will be good to see when I get to start in the field at North Islands.”

GP Racing Karts to host free tryouts

GP Racing Karts has announced that they will be hosting free tryouts of GP Racing Kart Product at the Innisfil Indy Karting Track on September 12th.

"We would like to extend the opportunity to any Ontario karters to come up to Innisfil Indy on September 12th to try out the chassis that is the current Canadian National Champion in the Rotax Max DD2, class," Tony Luani, owner of Innisfil Indy Karting said.

"In addition to the DD2, we will also have Rotax Max Senior and Rotax Max Junior karts available for drivers to tryout during the day," Launi added.

At the end of the day, there will be a bar-be-que and corn roast that will be hosted by GP Racing Karts.

September 13th is a club race at Innisfil Indy Karting where they will be joined by their friends from Mosport International Karting club, and they are inviting drivers that come up for the tryout to stay for the weekend and race on Sunday.

Launi dominates Rotax DD2 final at Goodwood

GOODWOOD, ONTARIO - GP Racing Karts and the Innisfil Indy racing team had a fantastic weekend at the ASN/FIA Canadian National Karting Championships which were held this past weekend at the historic Goodwood Kartways.

GP Racing Karts team leader, Frank Launi, along with teammates Zack Meyer and Michael Lombardi were all competing in the headline Rotax DD2 class. There was not only a National Championship on the line for the trio, but also a birth to join Team Canada at the Rotax Max World Finals later this year in Egypt.

"This weekend was very important to us," Launi said. "We knew with the level of competition in DD2 that it would be a tough haul, but I had confidence in our Innisfil Indy team, and the GP Racing Karts."

Launi, who qualified second in DD2, while his teammate Meyer was third and Lombardi slotted in 12^th. In the heat races, Launi and Meyer were consistently at the front, while Lombardi made his way up the crowded field.

In the final, it was all Launi from the drop of the green flag. Launi took the lead early during the fifth lap and never looked back. It was a huge - and very popular - win for Launi.

"I just want to thank everyone that had a part in this win," Launi said. "It couldn't have gone any better in the final, and I am very happy to have another chance to represent Canada at the World Finals. Our GP Racing Kart chassis was perfect the entire 30 lap distance, and my Rotax engine performed perfectly thanks to my brother Joe. This is a great win for our team, and once again thanks to everyone that made this happen - especially my dad and my brother."

Meyer also had a decent result in the final, finishing fifth, and Lombardi, after starting seventh, had a good run going until he had an issue with his nose cone that forced him to retire. Eric Gerrits, who was also on a GP Racing Kart finished 7^th in DD2.

Nabil wins again in Malaysia

Nabil Jeffri continued his amazing run in the GP10 with another victory on 1st August. The race was part of the Plus Motorsports Carnival and Nabil comfortably beat Aaron Lim, Malaysian A1GP reserve driver and Bryan Mehta, Birel Asia Pacific works driver in a 25 lap sprint race for karts powered by the Yamaha KT-100 SEC engine.

This makes Nabil's (and the GP10) record a very impressive 4 wins from 5 races, with a very close 2nd as the other result.

To cap off a good day for GP Racing, John King and Kelvin Choo finished 3rd in the 2 hour Rotax enduro race which was the feature race of the programme.

GP Shines again at the Malaysian Rotax Max Challenge at the Sepang international karting track Sunday the 28th June 2009

GP DD2 Driver Ooi Fei Hoong dominated the race from the start and finished 1st with fantastic lead. Now GP DD2 lead the Malaysian Champion Ship with Ooi fei Hoong No 1 spot and Other GP Driver John King Taking the second spot

The Masters race John had a Fantastic run but due to the final lap mishap ( He was knocked from behind ) he lost the podium finished but managed to finished 4th for the Rotax Masters. He has taken the No 1 spot for Rotax Masters For the GP-10

Cadets too did well. Two GP drivers Brendan Seibl taking 4th place and James Pull taking 6th place. Brendan is leading with No 1 spot and James has taken the 5th Spot for the Malaysian Micro max Championship in Malaysia For GP. Overall GP has taken the top spot in Malaysia. Next race will be on the 25/26th of July in Malaysia and GP is expecting good result again.

"Race of the Rockies" 2nd Round

The 2nd round of the Race the Rockies regional championship was contested on June 28, 2009 at The Track at Centennial (www.thetrack.us). Much of the Rocky Mountain Kartworks team (rmkartworks.com) was on hand for practice on Friday and Saturday. The weather was pleasant all weekend, if a bit hot at mid-day. The attendance was pretty good and the racing was clean. I don't recall a red flag all weekend, just many smiles and hard work by all.

GP drivers Cory Milne and Jeff Field looked strong going into race day. Cory snagged pole with a 53.20 second lap and Jeff over-drove for a 4th position, just 0.45 seconds off. In the first 10 lap prefinal, Milne and Field stretched out a gap on the pack with Milne taking the win and Field less than 4 tenths behind. The second prefinal was much the same with Field in 2nd by 2.9 seconds to Milne. The final race was set to be a close fight between the two GP teammates. Field took the point in the early laps of the 20 lap final with a good start. Jeff and Cory swapped positions several times on lap 4 to see Milne stretch out a lead that would not be given back. Field was mired in traffic while attempting to close the gap, but came home 2nd. That was enough to move Field into the lead of the championship.

This weekend, the restricted junior shifter class was filled with 2 young guns behind the wheels of GP karts. Cole MacEwen and Austin Schimmel are always in a close fight. On this day, Cole snagged the pole by a mere 0.139 seconds. Austin took the win in the first prefinal, with Cole returning to the point in the second prefinal. Austin again found his pace in the final getting by Cole and driving to a 7 second victory. A great effort by both young talents.

After some motor trouble and setup experiments in practice, Myles Marolt piloted his GP chassis to qualify 4th in class, and hauled himself onto the podium for a well earned 3rd place. Also, Dave Conyers earned the top step of the podium with a strong drive in his GP kart in KZ2 masters.

GP team driver, Mike Jansen, had a tough weekend chasing electrical woes. With no spark on the engine, he qualified 9th with no timed lap. Mike hauled himself to 6th in the first prefinal only to have problems again, preventing him from starting the 2nd prefinal. After some hard work in the pits, he had much to do on track in the final. With some great driving and a bit of luck, Mike found himself in 3rd on lap 9 of 20 and moving to 2nd position in lap 13. Holding that position from some strong competition was good reward after a hard weekend. Mike now leads the championship.

Overall, it was a good weekend for the Rocky Mountain Kartworks team. The next round of Race the Rockies will be a temporary course set up in down town Denver. Very exciting. Here is the mylaps Results data

GP10 debuts in Malaysian SL Cup - and wins convincingly

Nabil Jeffri, Malaysia's top junior driver made a guest appearance in Round 3 of the Yamaha SL Cup on June 14th using John King's GP10 and a borrowed 2 year old Yamaha KT100 engine. Running in the senior class, Nabil qualified on pole by an amazing .4 sec and proceeded to win both races during the day.

The SL Cup has a small but very high class field and includes Birel Asian pacific supprted drivers, some Asia Formula BWM drivers and so a junior winning on debut in this type of racing in a chassis few of the competitors had seen before created a stir - almost all the drivers had a close look at the GP10 in parc ferme or the pits at some point during the day.

Since the beginning of 2009 when John King Karting 1st started to bring GP chassis into Malaysia, the record for the karts create incredible reading:

Tino Donadei (punti 135) ha ristabilito le distanze con gli avversari negli ultimi due appuntamenti del girone, con due implacabili successi. Il parmense ha vinto anche a Busca ed ha consolidato il suo primato in classifica, secondo si è classificato Emanuele Pinzone Vecchio (punti 102), autore di un campionato formidabile, condotto sempre al vertice, è uno dei papabili per il podio finale.
Altro driver che ha fatto vedere delle grandi performance nell’arco della stagione è Giovanni Gallini (punti 128), quest’ultimo sul tracciato di Busca non è andato oltre un quinto posto, ma la distanza dal capo classifica Donadei non è affatto incolmabile e la vittoria è ancora possibile.

Round 3 of the Malaysian Kart Championship was held at Sepang International Kart Circuit on 7th June 2009.

John King Karting drivers took a clean sweep of race victories, winning all three categories – cadet, junior and senior.

In cadet, James Pull made his debut with the team and in a GP Cadet, having raced 2 rounds of RMC with an Intrepid. James and the kart showed amazing pace all day, taking pole position and winning both heats, the pre-final and the final and setting the fastest lap in all races. James will be switching to the GP Cadet for RMC Round 3for Rotax class for this month Races. This result will give him confidence to challenge for a high finish in the RMC.
